Snow Cream

Posted by: Terra In: Seasonal

We got some (about 6.5″ total) snow this weekend and about the only reason this flip-flop-wearin’-summer-lovin-Southern gal was excited to see it (other than watching my kiddos play in it!) was to make some snow cream! Yum! We made this every time it snowed when I was growing up, but since living in NC we haven’t seen enough to warrant making any. However, this snow was screaming, snow cream (as are the boys everytime they look out the window!!) :)

It’s super simple to make, and delicious to boot!

1Cup Milk
1/2Cup Sugar
1/4tsp Vanilla extract

Mix these ingredients together until the sugar is dissolved.

Then stir in 4-5Cups of {CLEAN} snow until mixture is ice cream like.

Enjoy! :)

I plan to try this for dessert tonight! We had about 3″ of snow leftover from the last system, plus 1.5″ from Tuesday. And so far today, I’d say we’ve got another 4-5″ of fresh snow on top of all that. They’re saying we may get up to 13″ by the time it’s all over. So I should have plenty of fresh, clean snow to pick from!

Yummy! It’s been a LONG time since I’ve had snow cream. I accidentally used 1/2 tsp vanilla instead of 1/4. But, you can never have too much vanilla in my opinion! :) I used chocolate sauce on my portion. Robert had it plain.

  • Terra: I don't think I did, but I usually just use a mixture of powdered sugar and milk (about 3/4C powdered sugar and 1-2T milk). And, I don't even remembe
  • Emily Lourcey: Did you post the recipe for the royal icing you used with these?
